The pattern for this scarf already existed in the 1860s on a beautiful belt knitted in metal thread.
As a young girl, Ida lived at the inn in Ishult, north of Oskarshamn. Her duties included tending the fire and keeping the food warm for the late night guests.
Late one evening a very distinguished gentleman came in for lodging. He was wearing this beautiful belt.
When he fell asleep, Ida snuck into his room, snitched the belt and then sat up most of the night to figure out how it was done.
The next morning the belt was back in place and this gentleman probably never knew that Ida later took the idea to the village of Snarås and knitted many beautiful shawls in the same technique.
